HISTORY                                                                                                                                                              Basil Scalabrini had always loved making wine as a hobby, so it was only natural to take it to the next level. After living in Marin County and working as a teacher for many years, he decided to move the family to the country to plant a vineyard. After extensive searching for the perfect location, we moved to Annapolis in 1975, and planted our vineyards. After farming for several years, Basil decided to begin making wine on a commercial scale.  The first wine was made in a redwood grove at the top of the hill. It was a 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon. It was great! We built the winery in 1988, and began making wine from each vintage. As we've grown over the years, there is much more to do: weddings, vineyard management, wine making, farm work, bottling, marketing and sales, and more.  We are family owned and operated, and are involved in every phase of the wine growing process, from pruning to bottling. We take personal pride in producing the best wine we possibly can. Our focus is on quality, not quantity. We produce a very small amount of wine, taking personal care at each step of the process. The result are wines that are naturally intense in variety character.

  WINE MAKING
The soils and climate here in Annapolis are unique in Sonoma County. Sandy low-vigor soils, abundant sunshine , cool breezes. Conditions are so perfect, that there really isn't much to do to improve upon. From vine to bottle, we do everything we can to stay out of the way, and let the wine grow.

  PHILOSOPHY
Less Is More! Our aim is to allow the grapes natural flavors to develop, with as little intervention as possible. We practice natural farming techniques. We use only organic fertilizers. No pesticides are used. All of our fruit is hand picked and carefully inspected. No fining agents are used. Personal care and attention go into every bottle. What you taste in the bottle is what is grown in the fields.  All our wines are made from locally grown wine grapes.  Our mission statement:  "To Secure Local Fruit Sources and Provide our Customers with the Essence of  The Sonoma North Coast."
